Official Translations
An Official Translation is required when you need to submit a foreign document to a Greek public authority, service or body, such as a tax office, registry office, municipality, ministry etc.

The above translation certification applies only for use in Greece. For use abroad, it is usually sufficient to have the translation certified by the translation office.
Nevertheless, you should always contact the body you wish to submit your documents to and confirm what type of certification they accept.
Apostille
The Apostille is set to original public documents or true copies thereof (Circular of the Ministry of Interior No. 47302/26-08-2008). The Apostille does not certify the translation but only certifies the signature, the capacity of the signer and the seal or stamp it bears. Thus, the documents become valid for use in the countries that have signed The Hague Convention of 5 October 1961.
The entity which you wish to submit your documents to will confirm if you need an Apostille. In case the Apostille is indeed you must first obtain it and then give the documents for translation.

For more information about the Apostille you may contact:
• The Decentralized Administration of Attica, if you are situated in Athens.
• The Decentralized Administration of Macedonia and Thrace, if you are situated in Thessaloniki.
• The nearest Decentralized Administration for other Regions, which can be found on the relevant page of the Ministry of Interior.

Residents of a foreign country: Apostilles may only be issued by a Competent Authority designated by the State on whose territory the public document has been executed. For more information regarding the issuance of the Apostille, please refer to the competent authority of the city you live in.
